Nothing wrong with plain. If you want a basic Italian meal...This is your place. All of the standard Italian entrees, no hype and super reasonably priced. I am a big fan of their Vodka sauce.

Home cookin'
If you are looking for a hoity-toity fancy dinner, you can find that elsewhere. If you want a neighborhood family restaurant that hasn't changed much in the last 50 years....you will feel at home here. You can buy a bowl of soup for less than a dollar and the entrees run around $8 and are big enough for 2. You aren't going to find artisanal bread served with olive oil, its white bread and butter..perfect to sop up the sauce and probably much like your mother used to serve. I go to Bove's every chance I get.

I cannot believe this place has been in business so long. You can tell a restaurant by its bread, and this place serves the most bland italian white bread served directly from the bag from the grocery store. The sauces are nothing special and the staff seems uninterested in cooking to order. I asked for a spicy sauce and my request was ignored. On top of that, they do not take credit cards. Who doesn't take credit cards? This is not exactly Hanover Street in Boston's North End. Conveniently, they have an ATM on site with a convenient transaction fee which I suspect is a nice profit center for Bove's. Don't bother.

Not too impressed...
I heard so many good things about Bove's, so I decided to try it for myself. I thought that the food was unimaginative and the sauce was very plain. I love manicotti and they only offer it one day a week. I think that it is important for a a classic Italian restaurant, that Bove's claims to be, to offer basic Italian dishes more often. Anyone can throw your choice of pasta on a plate with sauce and call it "Magnifique" and you don't have to endure the bad atmosphere of Bove's.
