I wish I could get it to go to avoid the staff!

Wonderful food, real Italian feel. My only (but fairly striking) complaint was an experience with my Ravioli! I ordered a vegetarian ravioli with cheese and asparagus. Half of my order was correct, but half of the ravioli was meat filled! I'm not a vegetarian, but if I had been I would be much more upset about this mishap. To make the situation worse, I show the waiter... he just looks at me. DOESN'T offer to take it back, DOESN'T apologize, just says "huh". WOW. Again, amazing food, but I don't know if I will go back JUST because of the service. I'm sorry, but when I go out to eat it's for the experience as well as the food. It was my experience with one person, but they represent the establishment and there is really just no excuse. Shame.

Ecxellent!

I have been to Pulcinella's numerous times, and I have always been incredibly pleased with my experience. I, like one of the other reviewers, have been to many very nice restaurants throughout the US and in Europe, and have found paper over the tablecloths so that is certainly not a reason to discount the excellence of the food.

The appetizers are amazing, and I usually find myself ordering multiple appetizers because I can't decide.  The beef carpaccio is phenomenal - light and delectable - while the calamari is some of the best I have ever had.  The current way they are preparing the snail appetizer is amazing; the tomato cheese sauce is absoltuely delicious.

As for entrees, I have had their pastas, pizzas, chicken, veal, tuna, salmon, shellfish, vegetarian options, and just about every other possible dish, and I have always been amazed at how these foods I have eaten so many times before can contain such wonderful flavors and be prepared in such wonderful ways.

The vodka martinis (extra dry, extra dirty) are the best I've had in Burlington, and I am a picky martini drinker.

Perhaps my only complaint is that I live just over a half hour away; I would much prefer that I lived right around the corner!

Authentic Italian
I read with interest the poor review Pulcinella's received from one patron. If you have ever been to Italy you would not be surprised by the paper table coverings. Many of the restaurants in Italy use them, and in one particually great restaurant the owner tallied up the bill right on the paper table covering and that was our check! It is very Italian. And Kudos to the owners of Pulcinellas for being thoughtful enough to cut down on costs that in other restaurants are passed on to the patrons.

I was in awe of the food and the owner himself came out to the table to say hello at the end of our meal. The servings were large enough that we all took food home with us. Having recently been in Italy, I could really appreciate the incredible dishes. Yes, you pay for the quality, but for a special dinner it is my first choice!

Management Rebuttal
Last year when we first opened we had a fly problem due to having to keep the doors open because of faulty air conditioning, It took us until early in the winter to finally get rid of the problem, and we haven't had any problems since.

An independent restaurateur can’t compete with Olive Garden's $9.95 chicken rotini bake with endless salad or soup. What we offer is freshly prepared authentic Southern Italian food, utilizing the highest quality imported and local products.

We cover our table clothes with white butcher paper for numerous reasons. Some very high end restaurants in Boston, NYC, & Chicago use butcher paper on their table tops. It would be an additional $800.00 a month if we where to change the linen after every table turn, and given other methods of linen savings i.e. Glass tops, wipe able table clothes, etc, I find butcher paper to be unique. Besides, the additional cost would have to be passed on to the guest.

In 11 short months we have built a loyal customer base, people who have become “Family” not guests, people who love what we do so much that they dine with us 2-4 times per week, every week. We have had people come in to dine with us looking for a South Burlington Bove’s, i.e. $6.95 spaghetti with meatballs, we are not that, (I’m not putting down Bove’s at all) those guests have not returned, nor will they return. We have guests that can only afford to dine with us 1 a week, 1 a month, etc... They also are treated as family. That is what we are about. We take a lot of pride and privilege in what we do. We love taking care of people, but we also understand that we are not the restaurant for everyone, and as much as we try, we cannot please everyone.

Don't waste your time
I took my husband to Pulcinella's after he accepted a new job. What a mistake! Not only was the food priced too high for what it was, the owners of the restaurant are confused - what kind of fine dining establishment uses paper table coverings?!?!?!? I also complained to our waitress about a bug problem I noticed (there were lots of flies and we were seated by the kitchen) and we did not receive any visit from a member of the management team or a reduction on our bill. Do not waste your time!
