We are visiting Burlington from the shoreline in CT. I guess our expectations of seafood may be a little higher, but the Shanty was not what we expected.
The atmosphere is kitschy with nets hanging around. The tables are jammed in so close that the waitress kept rubbing up against me with her bum as she served the table next to us. (I guess that might not always be a negative thing). It is very loud inside- the waitstaff had to shout to be heard. There were plenty of waitstaff on hand- but it still took forever for our waiter to take the order and then for it to come to the table.
The Mac and cheese is homemade- my husband really enjoyed his. The fried clam strips were average. Nothing special, but enjoyable to eat. The fried shrimp was tasteless at best. The shrimp were slimy inside a bland chewy coating.
The baked stuffed shrimp are not what you expect them to be. Baked stuffed shrimp are supposed to be jumbo shrimp, sliced open and stuffed with a buttery seafood stuffing and then baked. What arrived at our table can only be described as slimy little cocktail shrimp dripping with Cheez-whiz and topped with mushy celery flavored Stovetop stuffing. Ewww doesn't begin to describe it. I really tried to eat it.... but I could not choke it down. Gross.
Mediocre service, below average food and a noisy, crowded atmosphere.
